Under valued watch brands;

Movado

There are many excellent value (under-the-radar) watch brands which deserve a higher profile given their excellent quallty. In this category I would include the venerated Swiss watch company Movado.

MOVADO- is an Esperanto word meaning always in motion, The company was founded in La Chaux -De-Fonds in Switzerland in 1881 and has enjoyed a distinguished history including the Grand Priz at the Universal Exhibition in Brussels in 1910. Prized watches from Movado include the Polyplan (1912) the Ermeto (1926) and the first Museum Watch (1947) which later became THE first watch to be admitted tnto the Museum of Modern Art (1960).

This lovely Movado example - left is from 1948 has an 18 carat gold case and bezel measuring 33mm-excl crown, with a ‘pie-pan dial with a soft gold patina. SOLD.

Universal Génève.

Among the many excellent value watch brands deserving of a higher profile is undoubtedly Universal Généve (UG)

UG produced watch movements the equal of better known makers Omega, Longines etc.

This lovely example - left is from 1946 with military style dial with sweep seconds hands. Bezel and screw-case are chrome-plated and in good condition.

Roamer

Among the many excellent value watch brands deserving of a higher profile is Roamer. Founded by Fritz Meyer this Swiss watch company established in 1888 produced its first ‘in-house’ movements in 1895.
This lovely example - is from 1946 with a brushed silver 2 tone dial at 33mm and steel snap back case case in very good condition. The movement is a high grade Roamer 15 jewel MST 364 movement. f = 18000 A/h with a power reserve of 35hours. Note the ‘fancy lugs’ which add that extra stylish touch to this rare and elegant piece.
